Forum marketing has been around for a long time now, but still many new marketers get confused when it comes to doing it the right way, which is why you see them getting banned. So what we're going to do is give you some great forum marketing tips that you can just steal with a clean conscience and use.
Forums and their established members appreciate when people are polite and make positive comments and contributions. Do a lot of reading, get a feel for things, and then add your well thought comments only when they're appropriate. Just remember that you need to conform to the rules and culture of any forum you join, but of course you have to also be your well-behaved self. The reasons for all of this is you'll be spending a lot of time there, over time, and you need to be perceived as worthy of doing business with by others. Perception is everything, and so that means you need to be viewed as someone who has knowledge about your niche and is willing to help others. It's all about preselling and building a base of people who are more open to your marketing.
Whatever you do, never let anyone make you lose your temper because you will probably say things that will do you more harm than good. There are many times when even reputed forum marketers are shown the door just because of their lack of conduct. It's all about courtesy, show everybody the utmost respect and you will get it all back, plus more. If you see that there's a particular argument starting or heated discussion/debate, keep yourself out of it. Flame wars are good, so get involved in them but be careful not to lose your composure and stick to your guns.

Forums will ban you if your infraction is serious enough; one example is spamming posts or link spamming in your posts. Secondly, even if you don't get banned, you'll get reported by the other members who will feel repulsed by your spammy approach. You'll find that most people don't want to put up with forum spammers, and they will let you know in no uncertain terms, too. Forum marketing will cost you an investment of time, but if you do it intelligently then it will certainly pay off, hugely. There is nothing hard about forum marketing, but it really can be done the right and wrong way.
